Комментарий автора: "In the Year 2525" is one of my favourite 60s songs. It always gives me the beautiful retro sci-fi feeling. So one snowy day I decided an AMV of it would be in order. Now I know some people absolutely hate this song, but that hasn't stopped me before. ;)
I had the song on one of my hit compilation albums, but sound quality on it wasn't the greatest. There was a lot of noise and at one point a noticeable drop in volume. So I did a little research online, decided to invest a few euros and ordered a CD which included a digitally remastered version of the song. The new version sounds much better than the version I had, although while editing I did notice a spot where digital cleanup had introduced a side effect. Fortunately it's barely audible.
Multi-anime videos are always fun to make, since you don't have to keep looking at the same characters all the time. Frequently changing footage is also better able to keep the audience's attention. The only problem was that my hard disk space is somewhat limited. That and I needed to make low quality AVIs for editing. Slow-ass computer, you see. What I did to get around this dilemma was to watch through my DVD collection at 4x to 8x speed, take note of chapter numbers in PowerDVD and rip only the specific parts I thought I could use. Then I made the editing AVIs and deleted the VOBs temporarily. When the time of final export rolled around, I re-ripped the footage according to the notes I had made previously. In the midst of editing I heard about another method for the storage space challenged which is based on saving VirtualDub job queue files. I'll have to try that sometime.
I built the whole video around the End of Evangelion segment. I honestly love how that turned out kind of creepy and comedic. I had to restrain myself to not go overboard with teh funnay, and I think I managed to find a good balance. Even though the song sounds very simple and monotonous, it was surprisingly hard to edit to. If you listen closely, you can hear all sorts of rhythm changes and added instruments in every strophe.
